David Livingston is a USC alumnus with a degree in international relations who will tackle energy, climate change and other environmental issues during his research fellowship in Washington D.C.

2010 Fulbright U.S. Student Program Grant Recipients
Melissa Brough A doctoral student in Communication, Melissa will spend an academic year in Colombia studying how user-generated media participation facilitates civic engagement, democratization, and social change. Specifically, Melissa will examine participatory media practices in two radio stations in Colombia and draw lessons that could be applied in the United States.
Caitlan Carroll is a USC alumna with a Master of Science in Journalism. In Germany, Caitlan will examine innovative approaches in business to retaining senior staff, and explore the research of leading geriatric specialists. She will partake in research on workplace trends at the University of Luneburg, and interview workers and managers within the Hamburg area.
Joseph Hannon. With a major in Music, and three minors in German, Russian, and Popular Music studies, Joseph will spend one academic year teaching English in Germany. In addition to teaching, Joseph plans to study the differences in music education in Germany and the United States by volunteering at his school’s music department as well as local church and community music ensembles.
Dawn Powell will be graduating from USC with a major in International Relations and a minor in Spanish. She will spend her Fulbright year in Brazil quantitatively evaluating China’s impact on various sectors of the Brazilian economy. Her project will consist of coursework at the Universidade Estácio de Sá and independent research with the China-Brazil Business Council.
Clara Suh will receive a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Management and Planning with a minor in German. She will spend her Fulbright year teaching English to elementary school children in the Republic of Korea. As a teacher, Clara would like to combine her passion for outdoor sports and community service by encouraging students to learn to read and write through an outdoor education program.
Shanelle Ueyama received a master’s in Public Health with an emphasis in Global Health from USC in May 2009. Shanelle’s research will examine the increase in smoking rates among South Korean women, specifically analyzing the socio-cultural and gender-specific correlates of smoking in a cohort of 300 female college students in Seoul, Korea.
