Graduate Study awards are for applicants interested in pursuing advanced degrees in North America, Asia, or Europe.

University Endorsement Required

USC endorsement requires participation in a formal campus process as outlined on each fellowship page. Applicants are not able to apply directly.

Beinecke Scholarship (Open)
$34,000 of need-based funding to pursue graduate study in the arts, humanities and social sciences (Ph.D. or terminal degree such as MFA). Must be a junior to apply and demonstrate financial need. U.S. citizenship required.

Churchill Scholarship (UK)
Provides tuition and funding for ~15 students each year toward graduate work in engineering, mathematics and the physical and natural sciences at Churchill College, Cambridge University. U.S. citizenship required.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program*
Full funding for an academic year of research, English teaching, or internship abroad in over 140 countries for graduating seniors, graduate students and recent alumni. U.S. citizenship required.

Marshall Scholarship* (UK)
One or two years of graduate study at most universities in the U.K. (England, Scotland, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland). Desired qualities are demonstrated social concern and evidence that a candidate will be a leader both within his or her profession and within the broader community. U.S. citizenship required.

Mitchell Scholarship* (Ireland)
One year Masters degree funding for one of nine institutions in the Republic of Ireland. U.S. citizenship required. 

Rhodes Scholarship (UK)
Selects students from eighteen countries and five continents to attend the University of Oxford in England. Study is funded for a one-, two- or three-year period. Emphasis is on excellence in overall academic record, complemented by qualities of leadership, writing ability, social concern, and athletic activity.

Truman Scholarship (Open)
Up to $30,000 for graduate school for students with extensive record of public service intending to pursue careers in government or other public sectors. Must be a junior to apply. U.S. citizenship required.


Direct-Apply Opportunities

Direct-apply fellowships do not require university endorsement to apply, however, AHF will conduct general advising and/or draft reviews during specified periods.

Gates Cambridge* (UK)
One year of study as an affiliated student or graduate student at the University of Cambridge. The foundation seeks students to support intellectually outstanding postgraduate students with a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars* (Stanford)
Selects up to 100 high-achieving students yearly from around the world with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment to receive full funding to pursue a wide-ranging graduate education at Stanford University.

Schwarzman Scholars* (China)
Fully-funded one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing designed to prepare future leaders for success in a world where China plays a key global role.
