USC Schaeffer Fellows are placed in high-level internships at the local, state, and federal level. USC secures ten of these positions in Washington D.C., Sacramento, and Los Angeles.
D.C. Schaeffer Fellows are interested in learning about the legislative process at the federal level and curious about a career in public service. They will gain experience working closely with office staffers and constituents in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include drafting constituent letters, tracking bills, conducting legislative research, drafting statements for Congressional record, assisting with social media, sorting mail, answering incoming calls, and contributing to daily office operations.
Sacramento Schaeffer Fellows are bright, self-starting, energetic student leaders interested in learning the dynamics of state government. Fellows provide support to staff with special events and special projects related to general administrative duties of the office which represents a number of cities.
Responsibilities include assisting in research, planning, and logistics for upcoming events and providing accurate information in response to constituent inquiries & community issues. They will expand their knowledge of public policy by assisting community-based organizations on various administrative tasks, casework, legislative research efforts, and event organizing.
Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles Schaeffer Fellows are placed across several of the Mayor’s Offices and related projects. They are innovative and entrepreneurial in their role and have a demonstrated interest in, or prior experience with, public engagement, economic development, small business and entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities include planning meetings, assisting with gathering important stakeholders, and partnering with lead staff members in event planning.
